Keyword proximity is best understood as clarity of relationship. Words that belong to the same idea should appear close enough that users and search systems can understand the connection, but there is no useful universal distance rule.
1. Put the core service and location together when that is how people naturally describe the offer, such as “chimney repair in Greenwich” rather than scattering the concepts across unrelated sections.
2. Use headings to create context. A heading such as “Commercial Roof Repair in Dallas” establishes a strong relationship without requiring the exact phrase in every paragraph.
3. Keep modifiers near the entity they modify. “Emergency plumbing for restaurants” is clearer than placing “emergency,” “restaurants,” and “plumbing” in separate disconnected sections.
4. Do not sacrifice readability to move words physically closer. Search engines use far more context than literal word distance.
5. Use internal links and surrounding text to reinforce relationships between services, locations, industries, and supporting resources.
6. Test the page by scanning only the title, headings, first sentences, and calls to action. The topic and offer should still be obvious.
Good proximity is a byproduct of clear writing and page structure. If related concepts are naturally grouped for users, the page usually sends stronger topical signals without artificial keyword engineering.
