Treat reclamation as a relevance and editorial-value exercise, not a count of every mention on the web.

Prioritize mentions where a link improves the reader experience. Strong candidates include articles referencing your original research, product, organization, executive quote, event, dataset, or resource where readers may reasonably want the source.

Score opportunities on:
- topical relevance to the brand or linked resource;
- editorial quality of the page and site;
- recency of the article;
- whether the mention is positive/neutral and contextually accurate;
- whether there is a clear destination URL;
- whether the page already cites external sources.

Avoid spending time on scraped content, autogenerated directories, low-quality syndication copies, or pages where adding a link would feel unnatural.

For outreach, make the editor's job easy. Reference the exact article and sentence, explain which URL is the primary source or useful reader destination, and provide the full link. Do not frame the request as an SEO favor. Frame it as source attribution or reader utility.

Track outcomes by mention type and publisher category. If data-study mentions convert well but generic company mentions do not, put future effort where the editorial reason is strongest.

Also fix the underlying asset. If publishers repeatedly mention a concept but there is no obvious canonical page to link to, create or improve that source page so future citations have a natural destination.
