Prioritize differentiated value where it affects purchase decisions and search demand.
Keep accurate manufacturer specifications, but add retailer-owned information that reflects real customer needs: fit/compatibility guidance, comparison context, installation notes, sizing, use cases, warranty/returns, shipping constraints, original photos/video, FAQs based on support tickets, and verified review summaries.
Do not force a 500-word essay onto every SKU. Some low-demand commodity products may be adequately served by clean structured data, accurate specs, strong category context, and unique merchandising information.
Segment products by opportunity. Focus manual editorial effort on high-revenue items, strategic categories, products with meaningful organic demand, and pages currently competing against many identical copies.
Create reusable content modules from structured attributes where they remain truthful. For example, compatibility tables can be generated from real fitment data without becoming generic spun prose.
Strengthen category and comparison pages as well. Sometimes the best search destination is the curated category rather than an individual product with little unique information.
Measure whether improvements change impressions, long-tail query coverage, engagement, and conversion—not just word count.
The objective is not universal uniqueness for its own sake. It is giving shoppers and search systems useful retailer-specific information that the manufacturer's syndicated description does not provide.
