Image SEO starts with usefulness and performance. Images should support the page, load efficiently, and be described accurately rather than turned into another keyword field.
1. Prefer original project, team, location, product, or process images when available. They provide evidence that stock photos cannot.
2. Resize and compress images to realistic display dimensions; use modern formats when supported.
3. Provide width and height attributes or reserved aspect ratios to reduce layout shift.
4. Use descriptive filenames for maintainability, but do not expect filenames alone to create rankings.
5. Write alt text for the image’s purpose and content. If the image is decorative, empty alt text may be appropriate.
6. Make important images discoverable in HTML and avoid loading primary content images only after unnecessary interaction.
A useful, fast, correctly described image strengthens both user experience and page evidence. Keyword-stuffed alt text does not compensate for weak imagery.
